Chief Executive Officer – Joe Baini – BSc, Post Grad Diploma of Business Management
Joe has more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, focused on commercialisation, including marketing, sales, partnerships, government and licensing negotiations. Most notably, he is the former General Manager of Gilead Sciences Australia, New Zealand and Asia, one of the largest biopharmaceutical companies in the world. Under his leadership, this previously stagnant subsidiary of the organisation was turned around and during his 5 year tenure, revenue grew almost 10 fold.
Prior to Gilead, Joe was Marketing Director for Bayer Australia, and also previously held senior commercial management positions at Pharmacia & Upjohn and Merck Sharp & Dohme. Joe is Chairman of Avexa Limited (ASX: AVX), an Australian Biotechnology company, where he has been a director since April 2009 and is a non-executive director of Bluechiip, a unlisted public company, with a primary interest in I.D. tracking in the healthcare sector, focusing on biobanks and laboratories.
Joe is a principal and founder of eXec Factor Pty Ltd, an executive leadership consulting company. He is also currently on the board of the BioMelbourne Network.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Pharmacology and Biochemistry from the University of Melbourne, and a Diploma of Management from Macquarie University.
Chief Scientific Officer – Dr. Grant Rawlin
Dr Grant Rawlin, BSc (Vet) (Hons), BVSc has been central in the development of Immuron’s antibody technology. He is a registered veterinary surgeon and has a broad grounding in veterinary sciences and worked as a veterinarian in large and small animal practice. Dr Rawlin spent most of his earlier career in research and laboratory diagnostics with CSIRO and the Victorian Department of Agriculture working mainly in pathology and virology. Grant was a Principal Veterinary Officer for the Commonwealth of Australia working in scientific backgrounding of policy development of animal disease control and surveillance. He joined Immuron as Manager of Regulatory Affairs in 2000 and worked to put the regulatory foundations under the current product systems leading to listing of Bovine Colostrum Powder by the Therapeutic Goods Authority. For the past six years Dr Rawlin has managed the Company’s R & D programme and leading the Melbourne science team. This has also involved developing and expanding most of the company’s patent portfolio. He was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Immuron in November 2009 and subsequently appointed Chief Scientific Officer in January 2011.
Chief Medical Officer – Professor Yaron Ilan
Professor Yaron Ilan is the Director of the Department of Medicine at Hebrew University Hadassah Medical Center. Between 2002 and 2009 he served as the Vice Dean of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School. Following his graduation from Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in 1984, Dr. Ilan joined the Hadassah Medical Center staff and in 1995, he was appointed Chief Physician of the Liver and Gastroenterology Units. Between 1995 and 1997, Ilan engaged in postgraduate studies at the Liver Research Center of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and served on the staff of the Division of Liver Transplantation and the Liver Unit at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Between 2007and 2008 he worked at the Brigham and Women Hospital in Boston, and at Harvard Institute of Medicine in Boston. Dr. Ilan served as the President of the Israel Liver Association from 2005 to 2008.
Dr. Ilan is a world-renowned scientist in the fields of internal medicine, immunology, and liver diseases, with more than 230 peer-reviewed publications to his name. Dr. Ilan is an inventor of more than 30 patents, and is the inventor of a number of drugs being developed by international pharmaceutical companies. He has a significant biotech industry experience as a founder of several start-up companies.
Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary – Mr Graeme Stevens
Mr Stevens is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of professional experience in a broad range of roles. Graeme was appointed Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer in November 2007. Prior to joining Immuron he served in similar roles in a number of private and ASX listed companies. For over 10 years Graeme served as the General Manager and Chief Financial Officer for large legal firms, first with Blake Dawson Waldron, followed by Darvall McCutcheon. Prior to those positions Graeme served as an accountant in the International accounting practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Vice President Business Development – Mr. Amos Meltzer
Mr Amos Meltzer, BA Agr. Sc. (Hons), LLB, Post. Grad. Dip. Int. Prop, is a technology commercialisation specialist with over 18 years experience in a diverse range of life science and other businesses. He has advised companies from inception to market, including on intellectual property strategies, licensing and collaborative arrangements and preparing for financing. Amos’ extensive experience in the life sciences spans a large range of agreements across many different life sciences products and technologies, with both start-ups and global industry leaders, such as AstraZeneca, Bayer, CSL, Johnson & Johnson, Medarex, Novartis and Teva, involving complex scientific, commercial and legal issues. Representative technologies include protein and peptide therapeutics, therapeutic antibodies, small molecules, immunoassay and nucleic acid based diagnostics, genetic testing, life science reagents and kits and discovery platform technologies, primarily in the fields of oncology, autoimmune, infectious diseases and CHF. Amos served in legal and other roles in publicly traded companies. For over 5 years, he served as General Counsel to Compugen Ltd (Nasdaq:CGEN), a biotechnology company engaged in the discovery and development of therapeutic and diagnostic product candidates. For three years he served as a non-executive board member for Evogene Ltd (Tase: EVGN) and for 4 years as counsel at Gilat Satellite Networks (Nasdaq:GILT), a global satellite-based communications company.
Manager Regulatory Affairs – Mr Brian Muller
Brian Muller, BSc (Hons), MSc is an experienced scientist with a commercial focus and over 20 years of research and development experience in a range of Australian biotechnology companies. Since joining Immuron in 2000, Brian was member of the scientific team involved in the R & D and ultimate commercialisation of the Travelan™ product. Brian currently has the responsibility for quality assurance and regulatory affairs.
Director, Commercialisation & Intellectual Property - Dr Nina Webster, Ph.D., M.IP.Law, MBA Nina has twenty years in the pharmaceutical industry, with leadership roles in business development, project management, intellectual property portfolio management, research and development and general management.
Most recently, Nina spent ten years with Acrux Limited where, as Director of Business Development, she was responsible for the strategic identification, development and maintenance of commercial partnerships globally, along with responsibility for the intellectual property portfolio. Prior to Acrux, Nina spent six years in research and development at Wyeth in the UK, gaining experience from formulation development through to pharmaceutical scale-up and technology transfer. Nina holds a Ph.D in Pharmaceutics from Cardiff University, a Bachelor degree in Pharmacology, a Masters of Intellectual Property Law from Melbourne University and an MBA from RMIT.
